How It Works

Putting a number on a pest problem before you hire anyone makes the whole decision easier to manage. A rough cost figure up front lets you set aside the right amount and avoid being blindsided when the invoice arrives.

The estimate starts from a base price per treatment by pest type: $120 for general pests, $180 for rodents and $250 for termites. That base is scaled by home size (× 0.9 up to 1,500 sq ft, × 1.0 up to 2,500, × 1.2 up to 3,500 and × 1.5 above that) and multiplied by the number of treatments a year: 4 for quarterly, 6 for bi-monthly and 12 for monthly service. Severity and access are not inputs, so a heavy infestation or a hard-to-reach crawl space will cost more than the estimate.

Actual pricing moves with the severity of the problem, how accessible the trouble spots are, and what providers charge in your area, so read these numbers as a starting point. Going with the lowest bid without checking credentials or what results are guaranteed tends to backfire, and skipping the follow-up visits that make eradication stick is one of the easiest ways to end up paying twice.

Example: Quarterly General Pest Control for a 2,000 sq ft Home

  1. 1 Input: Home Size = 2,000 sq ft, Pest Type = General Pest, Frequency = Quarterly (the calculator's defaults).
  2. 2 Per treatment: $120 × 1.0 (the 1,501-2,500 sq ft band) = $120.
  3. 3 Annual cost: $120 × 4 treatments = $480.
  4. 4 Context: Termite service at the same size and frequency is $250 × 4 = $1,000 a year. Repairs to damage already done are not included.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does pest control cost?
A one-time general treatment costs $150-300 for an average home. Quarterly preventive service runs $100-200 per visit or $400-800 per year. Termite treatments are more expensive at $500-2,500 depending on the method and home size.
How often do I need pest control treatment?
Quarterly treatments are standard for general pest prevention. Monthly service may be needed in areas with heavy ant, roach, or mosquito pressure. Termite monitoring should be annual, with baiting or treatment as needed.
Is pest control safe for pets and children?
EPA advises removing children, toys and pets from the area before a pesticide is applied, indoors or outdoors, and keeping them away until it has dried or for as long as the product label says. If you hire a company, ask it about the risks of the products it uses and the precautions to take, and tell the technician about pets and children so they can choose products and methods accordingly.
