Typing Speed Calculator (WPM)

How fast you type, measured in Words Per Minute (WPM), is only half the story; the accuracy rating alongside it tells you how clean that speed really is, and together they let you watch your progress and spot weak points. Strong speed paired with precision feeds directly into productivity, and gauging where you stand is the starting point for improving both.

The calculator works in two ways. In manual mode you enter the words typed, the time in seconds and the number of errors: gross WPM is words divided by minutes, accuracy is (words − errors) ÷ words, and net WPM is gross WPM × accuracy, which comes to (words − errors) per minute. The built-in typing test runs for 60 seconds and uses the standard definition of a word as five characters, so gross WPM is the characters you typed divided by 5; accuracy there is the share of your words that match the test passage in the same position, and net WPM again multiplies gross WPM by that accuracy. Backspaces are not counted separately in either mode. Pairing speed with accuracy means your net score reflects both how quickly and how cleanly you work.

Keep your eyes off the keyboard while you practice and lean on touch-typing, because that is what builds the muscle memory behind lasting speed and accuracy. Chasing raw speed before precision is a frequent trap; it bakes in errors that are far harder to unlearn down the line. Frequent short sessions also tend to pay off more than the occasional marathon when you are after steady, durable gains.
